Tetrabutylammonium hydrogensulfate (TBAHS) is an organic compound with the chemical formula (C4H9)4NHSO4. It is a salt formed from the quaternary ammonium cation tetrabutylammonium (C4H9)4N+ and the hydrogen sulfate anion (HSO4-). TBAHS is commonly used as a phase transfer catalyst and in organic chemistry reactions.  

Chemical Properties: Tetrabutylammonium hydrogensulfate appears as a white to off-white crystalline solid. It has a molecular weight of approximately 339.55 g/mol. It is sparingly soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and aceton.

Phase Transfer Catalyst: TBAHS is widely used as a phase transfer catalyst in organic synthesis. It facilitates the transfer of reactants between immiscible phases, such as between aqueous and organic phases. It helps in promoting reactions that would otherwise be difficult to carry out in a single phase.

Ion Exchange Resins: Tetrabutylammonium hydrogensulfate is employed in the regeneration of ion exchange resins. It is used to convert the resin from its chloride form to its sulfate form, allowing the resin to be reused for various applications, including water treatment and purification.
